Die Vermessung der Welt – Symbiose zweier Persönlichkeiten
Alexander von Humboldt war ein wirklich Großer, zu dessen Ehre Universitäten und andere Bildungseinrichtungen, Straßen und Firmen benannt wurden. Auch Carl Friedrich Gauß sollte dem Gebildeten ein Begriff sein, findet man seine theoretischen Ansätze auch heute noch in einigen Aufsätzen wieder, die sich auf ihn beziehen. Über beide findet man etwas in jedem Lexikon, selbst denen von geringer Qualität, über beide wurden Biografien geschrieben, beide sorgten für etwas, das der Nachwelt in Erinnerung gerufen wird und beide sind sich mehr als nur ein Mal begegnet. Dieser Überzeugung ist zumindest Autor Daniel Kehlmann, der mit „Die Vermessung der Welt“ eine Art Doppelbiografie geschrieben hat.
Natürlich entspringt das Werk allein aus der Fiktion des Autors heraus, der den einen als launisch und mürrisch darstellt, den anderen als mutig und abenteuerlustig. Beide werden auf wirklich interessante Art und Weise in Verbindung gebracht, wodurch der Roman von Beginn an spannend und zudem äußerst nachvollziehbar daherkommt. Mit viel Phantasie schickt Kehlmann seine beiden Hauptprotagonisten auf eine Reise durch die Welt und eine Reise zu sich selbst, in der sowohl Humboldt als auch Gauß merken, dass sie noch so einiges zu lernen haben. Dadurch glänzt das Schriftstück neben einem hohen Unterhaltungswert auch noch mit einer gewissen Tiefe, die einen wirklich berühren wird.
