Der Roman von Federica de Cesco handelt von der jungen Tibeterin Dolkar, die in der Schweiz aufgewachsen ist. Ihre Familie ist vor vielen Jahren vor der chinesischen Besatzung geflüchtet und lebt nun in der Schweiz im Exil. Dolkar, inzwischen erfolgreiche Architektin, hat sich nie besonders für ihre Vergangenheit interessiert, auch hat ihre Mutter nie sehr viel von der Zeit in Tibet erzählt. Lediglich die buddhistischen Traditionen werden weiterhin innerhalb der Familie gepflegt. Eines Tages erfährt Dolkar von den Narben, die ihre Mutter am Körper trägt und stellt sie daraufhin zur Rede. Nach und nach kommt die Geschichte der Familie zutage: wie die Mutter von chinesischen Soldaten gefoltert wurde, dass ihre Grossmutter eine erfolgreiche Juwelenhändlerin war und deren Vater wiederum ein angesehener Medizingelehrter. Doch viele Fakten verschweigt die Mutter, so dass Dolkar sich selbst auf die Reise nach Lhasa macht.
Die Autorin geht in Das Haus der Tibeterin intensiv auf die Beziehung zwischen China und Tibet ein, man bekommt ein umfassendes Bild der politischen Situation in Tibet und wie rigoros und brutal die Chinesen mit dem tibetischen Volk umgehen. De Cesco schildert auch viele persönliche Schicksale, dadurch ist es zudem ein sehr emotionales Werk.
Der Titel ist bei Blanvalet erschienen im September 2009 und ist inzwischen auch als eBook erhältlich.
