Was bedeutet eigentlich Belletristik?
Auf die Frage nach der Definition von Belletristik erklärt uns Wikipedia, dass es sich um “die verschiedensten Formen der Unterhaltungsliteratur” handelt, wie z.B. Romane, Erzählungen, Dramen oder auch Lyrik. Historiker oder Linguisten würden nun belehrend darauf hinweisen, dass Belletristik nichts anderes ist als eine sprachliche Weiterentwicklung der belles lettres (wörtliche Übersetzung aus dem Französischen: die schönen Briefe).
Vereinfacht kann man sagen, dass sich die Belletristik von der Sach- und Fachliteratur als Unterhaltungsliteratur absetzt. Der Begriff Unterhaltung soll häufig die Eigenschaft des leichten Konsums besagter Literatur beschreiben, auch wenn dies nicht automatisch auf belletristische Texte zutrifft. Ferner wird der Begriff der Belletristik häufig herangezogen um fiktionale Texte von nonfiktionalen Texten zu unterscheiden. Die Schriften können dabei die klassische Form des Romans haben, als auch Poesie, Memoiren oder populärwissenschaftliche Publikationen sein.
