Wir gedenken eines großen Mannes
Genau heute vor einem Jahr ist der wohl größte Musiker unserer Zeit verstorben. Schon lange führte Michael Joseph Jackson ein Leben fernab jeder Gesellschaft, ein Leben in seiner ganz eigenen Traumwelt. Als Teil einer Großfamilie, zu deren zehn Kindern er zählte, wurde er bereits in jungen Jahren zum Erfolg gedrillt. Statt spielen auf dem Spielplatz stand hartes Training im Tonstudio an, statt Bonbons als Belohnung gab es harte Schläge mit dem Gürtel, wenn er auch nur einen Ton zu hoch sang. Was wir noch heute von ihm haben, sind die Songs der legendären Jackson Five und die Platten, die er als Solokünstler ungefähr in 750 millionenfacher Ausgabe verkaufen konnte.
Jackson erfüllte sich im Erwachsenenalter seine Kindheitsträume, kaufte sich die gigantische Neverlandranch und wirkte immer ein wenig sonderbar. Heute wissen wir selbst als Laien, dass er stark medikamentenabhängig war und ohne diese weder schlafen noch arbeiten konnte. All das wusste sein Biograph Hanspeter Künzler und hatte vor, im Juli des vergangenen Jahres eine Biographie über den King of Pop herauszubringen. Dies sollte noch vor der Mammuttournee passieren, für die Jackson seit Monaten auf der Bühne probte. Künzler musste den Druck von „Michael Jackson – Black or White“ stoppen und um ein niederschmetterndes Kapitel erweitern. Nun ist sie komplett und gibt einen ausführlichen Überblick über das ganze Leben des Mannes, der vielen mit seiner Musik eine helfende Stütze war und aus meiner Sicht viel zu früh verstorben ist.
